What is a disclosure?
There are two types of disclosure:
Standard Disclosures are for positions that involve regular contact with children or vulnerable adults. Regular contact can mean contact once a week on a regular basis, eg. a part time school gardener etc. Standard Disclosures may also be issued for people entering certain professions, such as members of the legal and accountancy professions. The disclosure will give details of all convictions held on the Police National Computer (PNC), and where appropriate, information on lists held by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department of Health (DH), of those considered unsuitable to work with children or vulnerable adults.
Enhanced Disclosures are for posts involving far greater contact with children or vulnerable adults. The type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of these people, such as teachers and scout or guide leaders. Enhanced disclosures are also issued for certain statutory purposes such as gaming and lottery licences. This level of disclosure will involve an additional check on local police records.
